Why Should I Care About Being Engaged...on Instagram?
Let’s talk about Instagram Engagement and why it is important in our quest to organically grow our pages.
If you’re reading this blog post, you’ve probably heard of the Instagram algorithm. While we’re never going to fully crack it (unless you work for Instagram) it is widely understood that the more engagement happening on a page, the more popular and visible it is to all other pages. Have you ever spent hours editing the perfect photo and pouring your heart into a caption only to get ZERO comments? Then you wonder, why is that?! It’s likely there wasn’t anything wrong with your content. It probably just wasn’t seen by anyone because your page has low engagement.
Now, you may be asking yourself, if MY content is so amazing, why does Instagram care about how much I interact with others? Hello, have you ever been in a one-sided relationship? It sucks, right? The same goes for Instagram. You can’t just post and ghost. You need to interact with other accounts too! Let me break down for you.
Here are 5 reasons why Engagement matters on Instagram:
Boosts your visibility
When people engage with (like, comment, save, share) your content, they are telling Instagram that they like it and they want to see more of it. Instagram loves that. They then increase the visibility on those things people are telling them they like and provide more of that, i.e. your posts!
Free Content Creation
Your followers are basically telling you what they want to see on your page.
You can utilize what your followers comment on your posts to generate more content that they connect with because they’ve given it to you: i.e. pain-points, struggles, questions they ask.
Sales, boothang
People want to purchase from brands/companies they feel connected to. If you have an engaged following on your posts, chances are they will check out your blog, website, and products/services. If you’re only posting sale after sale, your audience is going to scroll right by your posts, or worse, MUTE YOU! Let them get to know you.
Earn trust from a real audience
It is a myth that you don’t need thousands of followers to make sales on Instagram. Think about it: if you buy 10K bots to get the “swipe up” feature, do you think they’re going to buy your products. NO! You’re engaged followers, people that know, like, and trust you are going to buy your products.
Relationships
Building your brand or business organically through social media is all about building relationships so the next time you’re frustrated by your follower count, go comment on someone’s post and brighten their day. Engagement goes both ways!
